If only we didn’t have to work.
I believe that we have more time than we think if we weren't so busy wasting time on the internet, trying to be productive, or planning for the future. Here is an inspiring story about someone who does what she loves to do every single day: Here is the story.
We can learn much from T.R. Reid
Veteran foreign correspondent for The Washington Post, T.R. Reid, has a new book, The Healing of America, which "blends subjective and objective into a seamless indictment of our own disastrous system, an eloquent rebuttal against the arguments used to defend it, and appealing alternatives for fixing it."
Mr. Reid talked about the book on Fresh Air August 24th. Listen to that program on the NPR website.
T. R. Reid was lead correspondent in a 2008 Frontline Program called Sick Around the World, which examined five other capitalist democracies, looking for lessons on health-care delivery. You can watch the entire program online here.
Fido, can you spare a dime?
Garrison Keillor's latest piece in Salon really puts the whole health care hoo-hah into perspective. It's quite original: Here's the essay.
Bill Moyers on Obama’s Moment
I hope Obama is listening.
Here is a powerful plea to President Obama. Moyers' closing sentence: "No more Mr. Nice Guy, Mr. President. We need a fighter."
Insurers are winning
Bill Moyers featured the film MONEY-DRIVEN MEDICINE, which reveals how a profit-hungry "medical-industrial complex" has ruined the health care system. You can watch the two-part video online, read the transcript or download the podcast from this page.
“Money-Driven Medicine is one of the strongest documentaries I have seen in years and could not be more timely. The more people who see and talk about it, the more likely we are to get serious and true health care reform.”
- Bill Moyers
Moyers thinks every congressman and congresswoman should watch this.
Paul Krugman: Charles Grassley, coward
Paul Krugman is a very thoughtful blogger. In this post we learn how Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) tries to blame President Obama for his failure to tell the truth. You know Grassley, he's the one who said we have every right to fear the government, who will pull the plug on grandma. Click here to read the post.
